SHILLONG, March 2: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), North Khasi Hills Eastern Border Area, on Monday apprehended a suspected quack doctor allegedly treating patients without valid credentials at Umraling village in Ri-Bhoi.
The union members, led by president Banjop Maring, conducted an inspection of the clinic following complaints from local residents regarding a man operating without a signboard or proper medical documentation. The individual was identified as Syed Nazir Shah.
Maring alleged that Shah had been administering drips and injections to patients. The union also raised serious health and safety concerns after discovering used syringes stored in the treatment room, which were reportedly handed over to scrap collectors.
The KSU leader stated that the clinic was found in unhygienic conditions, with the same room allegedly used for both medical procedures and cooking.
Following the inspection, the union handed the individual over to the Mawlasnai Police Outpost for further investigation.
The KSU has urged the local village dorbar to remain vigilant and ensure that unqualified individuals are not permitted to operate medical facilities.
