SHILLONG, March 4: The Meghalaya Biodiversity Board, in collaboration with the Department of Zoology, St. Anthony’s College, organized an inter-school quiz and an online college quiz to mark National Science Day on February 28.
The event, held under the aegis of the National Mission on Himalayan Studies, also included a career guidance session for students focusing on the STEM sector.
In the inter-school competition, which saw participation from 17 teams (Classes VIII to X), Seven Set Higher Secondary School secured the first prize. St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School and All Saints Diocesan Higher Secondary School took the second and third prizes, respectively.
The inter-college online quiz drew 105 participants. Students from St. Anthony’s College won the first and third prizes, while a student from Synod College bagged the second prize. Addressing the gathering, Member Secretary of the Meghalaya Biodiversity Board, SM Swami, spoke on the importance of biodiversity in maintaining ecological balance and sustaining livelihoods. He highlighted the adverse effects of deforestation, such as habitat loss and climate change, and urged students to adopt sustainable practices to preserve natural resources. The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes and a vote of thanks by S Kharmalki.
