TURA: The decision of the State Government to discontinue the services of Malaria Project Workers (MPWs) in the five districts of Garo Hills has rendered many people jobless who are now finding it increasingly difficult to make ends’ meet. The decision had come into effect from April 1, 2014.

The out of job workers who feel that their lifelines have been abruptly and unceremoniously cut off have now resolved to fight against the decision of the government and formed the All Garo Hills MPW Association in a meeting held in Tura on Wednesday.

It is worth mentioning that the Malaria Project Workers from North Garo Hills under the leadership of Luckpaid R Marak had earlier submitted an appeal to the State Health Minister for the regularization of their services.

The aggrieved employees had also met Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and apprised him of their plight. However, the government failed to respond to the appeal and instead issued a notification discontinuing their services with effect from April 1, 2014 until further notice.
