Shillong, March 9: The Meghalaya team put up a commendable performance at the 5th KIO Senior & U-21 National Karate Championship 2026, held at Talkatora Indoor Stadium from February 26 to March 1, winning one gold medal.
A 17-member contingent from the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) participated in the championship under the leadership of Donboklang Lyngdoh and Pynhunlang Kharbuli.Gideon Tympuin brought laurels to the state by winning the gold medal in the Male Individual Kata event.According to the association, several other karatekas also performed strongly and reached the repechage medal rounds, narrowly missing podium finishes. Their performances reflected strong determination and competitiveness at the national level.
The association expressed gratitude to the Meghalaya Government for supporting the team’s preparation through a training programme ahead of the 39th National Games, noting that the camp helped improve the athletes’ performance. It also acknowledged the efforts of the state coaches for guiding the team.
