‘Zero tolerance policy’ against attacks on NE people

SHILLONG: In view of the rising cases of violence faced by the students from North East in New Delhi, the Delhi Police have adopted a Zero Tolerance Policy and appointed a Chief Coordinator of IG Rank and 11 Coordinators from district Additional CsP/ DCsP and 40 Delhi Police representatives from students and employees of North-Eastern Region.

This was informed through a government notification issued by the Government of India.

The department will conduct regular sensitization for all ranks of police personnel and hold regular meetings with all such representatives. Moreover, the new helpline 1093 for North Eastern people is already functional since February 14 and a Special Cell in Nanak Pura Police Station has also been designated exclusively to deal with the problem of North East people in Delhi.

Joint Commissioner of Police, Training has also been appointed as Chief Nodal Officer to look after the grievances of North-Eastern people. English speaking Lady Police will be placed at all police stations in Delhi and special training will be provided to the staff of North, North- West and South Districts where maximum NE citizens reside in Delhi. A website has been launched under the name of Delhi Police for North-East (dpne.com) for suggestions and grievances, relating to NE people, living in Delhi.
