TURA: The ANVC-B, particularly its chairman Rimpu N Marak, is in the centre of a storm following its recent media statement in which he had mentioned the name of a policeman alleged to have assaulted late Balsan Marak outside the Tura police station.

The ANVC-B chairman had mentioned the incident in a letter he claims to have handed over to Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Shambu Singh, and even highlighted the name of the security officer of the district police chief.

“We strongly believe the ANVC-B has a hand in the murder of the innocent man and there have been reports of their movement in and around Pelga and Wa’a Wari,” informed a senior police officer of the district supervising operations against militants.

Police are looking at the ANVC-B angle in the luring of the innocent auto rickshaw driver and his subsequent murder following a similar set of events that took place a day earlier.

A brick kiln owner was lured to Wa’a Wari by someone posing as a buyer on Wednesday. He was whisked away by armed men while the bricks were being unloaded and later the pick-up driver and his accomplice were released by the captors.

“The ANVC-B uses UALA letter pads to divert attention and we have found plenty of such demand notes in their camps,” said West Garo Hills Police.

Pointing out to the vast misuse of social media, the senior officer in the rank of police superintendent said, “There have been a lot of hate mail against police and other government officers some of whom were never even in Tura. Hate mails in the form of pictures, messages and discussions have been flooding the internet through Facebook and the WhatsApp application,” said the police officer.
