SHILLONG, March 14: State BJP vice president and Tura MDC Bernard N Marak on Saturday urged the government to restore internet services in Garo Hills, stating that the shutdown is causing severe public hardship.
Marak noted that residents are facing significant challenges due to the combined impact of internet suspension and power outages. He highlighted that essential financial transactions have been disrupted as UPI services and ATMs remain offline. The MDC added that students are unable to complete assignments, and job card holders dependent on online portals are facing difficulties, leaving net-related work largely paralysed.
While the situation in the hill areas has returned to normal, Marak said communication gaps make it difficult to assess conditions in the plains. Although he has not yet formally approached the authorities, Marak said he used social media to voice the public’s demand for the immediate restoration of connectivity.
