SHILLONG, March 14: A total of 11 individuals from Meghalaya were recognised for their outstanding contributions towards strengthening rural water supply and sustainability under the Jal Jeevan Mission at the National Jal Mahotsav in New Delhi.
Organised by the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, the event was attended by President Droupadi Murmu, who led the Jal Kalash ceremony and felicitated community members for their exemplary contribution to rural drinking water governance.
The ceremony celebrated the efforts of individuals and stakeholders who have contributed to the successful implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, a flagship initiative aimed at providing safe and adequate drinking water through functional household tap connections to every rural household in India.
The programme highlighted the importance of collaboration between government institutions, community leaders, and field representatives in achieving the vision of ‘Har Ghar Jal’.
Among the state’s achievers, Massar village (Pynursla Block), Nongdewsaw village (Ranikor Block) and Pahamjri village (Umling Block) were honoured for demonstrating continuous 24×7 rural water supply excellence. Recognition for financial sustainability through efficient user charge collection was awarded to Nongsohpian (Nongstoin Block), Jendragre (Rongram Block) and Tynriang (Pynursla Block).
Under the Distinguished Sarpanch/Headman Award, Spiland Jyrwa from Pyndendiwah village (Mawkyrwat Block) and Aikolos Ramri from Umsaw village (Nongstoin Block) were recognised for their leadership in managing piped water supply systems.
Additionally, women champions Elitamary Lyngdoh from Jashiar village (Mawkyrwat Block) and Memorialda Syiem from Tiehsaw village (Nongstoin Block) were honoured for excellence in water quality monitoring using Field Testing Kits (FTKs).
