SHILLONG, March 15: Global comedy star Russell Peters is set to perform at the Lariti International Centre for Performing Arts and Culture in two weeks, marking North East India’s first major international stand-up comedy event.
As part of his current India tour, Peters has chosen Shillong as his exclusive stop for the region. Known for his observational humor and multicultural storytelling, the comedian’s show is already nearing a sell-out.
The performance anchors a high-profile entertainment weekend for the city, following a major rock concert scheduled two days prior. Jason Manners of Rockski stated that the back-to-back events offer a unique opportunity for visitors to experience both music and comedy, further establishing Meghalaya as a hub for cultural tourism.
Director of Tourism Brenda Pakyntein welcomed the event, noting that hosting an international icon like Peters is a significant milestone that reflects the growing demand for world-class live experiences in the state. Over the last decade, Shillong has solidified its reputation as a premier destination for international artists and festivals.
Expressing his anticipation for the debut performance, Russell Peters said he was curious to experience the region for the first time. “I’m very familiar with India, but this part of the country is entirely new to me,” he said, adding that the visit might even provide inspiration for new material.
