SHILLONG: ANVC (B) has denied having a hand in the killing of the 26-year-old man who is the brother of a police official, in the outskirts of Tura.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, ANVC (B) said that it has nothing personal with the police officer and therefore killing his kin does not arise.
Stating that Police was quick in accusing ANVC (B) they said that they would appreciate if police could substantiate their accusation with evidences.
“ANVC (B) mentioned the police officer’s name in the statement because he was allegedly involved in the torture of Late Balsan S Marak and the officer’s silence confirmed his involvement and this is nothing personal and we did it to justify the facts giving an insight to the actual occurrences,” they said.
The ANVC (B) also feared that killing of the kin is a desperate act to divert the ongoing investigations on custodial deaths, adding there should be inquiry into this case.
The ANVC (B) said that this killing is very similar to an incident which occurred a year and half ago when there was similar uproar, demonstration and protest against Tura police for mishandling innocent villagers.
“To save police from criticism, a grenade was planted at Tura Bazar just before Christmas to divert and create fear psychosis among public and same officers were involved then so there is a possibility that the killing was orchestrated to distract and confuse the minds of the people,” ANVC-B accused while adding that another possibility is that the friends of police who were sent to Jaynie’s house earlier are asked to finish off the SOT’s brother without the knowledge of the police officer so that there is a situation for diversion and ANVC (B) could be blamed for the killing.
“ANVC (B) is doing its part to justify the death of its cadres and Late Balsan. We have no intention to deteriorate the situation in Garo Hills,” the statement said.
