1 killed as ultras open fire on NH 37 in Assam

GUWAHATI: At least one person was killed and several others injured when suspected Karbi militants opened indiscriminate firing on passing vehicles at Panbari on NH 37, along the borders of Karbi Anglong and Golaghat districts of Assam, on Saturday morning.

Eye-witness accounts claimed that militants started firing from hillocks on vehicles at around 0415 hours this morning.

More than a dozen vehicles came under the firing, in which one truck driver was killed.

Nearly 11 others sustained injuries and are being treated at the Bokakhat civil hospital and Jorhat civil hospital.

The condition of one of the injured was stated to be critical.

Police have launched operations to nab the militants and a few local Karbi people have been picked up for interrogation. (UNI)
