40 deaths reported during Eid holidays in northwest Pak

Peshawar, March 23: Around 40 deaths were reported in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province during two days of the Eid holidays, officials said on Monday. The national emergency service Rescue 1122 said that it responded to a total of 1,914 emergencies during the festive period. The emergency teams handled 1,261 medical cases, 62 fire incidents, 33 cases related to fights and crime, five drowning incidents, and 50 other emergencies, Rescue 1122 said in a report. A total of 40 fatalities were reported in various incidents, while 1,993 other individuals were provided medical assistance during those 48 hours. (PTI)

Pilot, copilot killed as Air Canada flight hits fire truck

New York, March 23: Two pilots were killed after an Air Canada regional jet collided with a fire truck on a runway during landing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night, officials said. The collision crushed the nose of the aircraft, while 39 passengers and crew members were taken to area hospitals, some with serious injuries. Most have since been released from treatment, authorities said Monday. Two Port Authority employees who were travelling in the fire truck also suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, said Kathryn Garcia, executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport. The two deceased individuals were the pilot and copilot of the aircraft. Both were based out of Canada. (PTI)

Jewish charity ambulances torched in London

London, March 23: Four ambulances belonging to a Jewish charity in London were set on fire early Monday morning in London, in what British police are investigating as a hate crime. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the “deeply shocking” antisemitic arson attack. “My thoughts are with the Jewish community who are waking up this morning to this horrific news,” he said. Officers were called to Golders Green, a London neighbourhood with a large Jewish population, after receiving reports of a fire, the Metropolitan Police force said. Four ambulances belonging to Hatzola Northwest, a volunteer organisation that provides emergency medical response, were damaged. (PTI)
