NONGPOH, March 23: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Nongpoh Circle, undertook repair work and restored two houses in Umsawnongkharai village that were severely damaged by a recent cyclonic storm.
The homes, belonging to Shidalin Nongrum and Joel Nongrum, were among the worst hit in the area.
The KSU members dedicated two days to the restoration work, pooling their own funds to procure the necessary building materials. The completed houses were formally handed back to the owners on Monday.
The handover programme was attended by KSU Nongpoh circle president John Lyngdoh, Umsawnongkharai village secretary Clephas Syngkli, the beneficiaries, and other village officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Lyngdoh stated that the KSU took up the initiative out of concern for the families left without shelter. He added that the effort was aimed at easing the hardships faced by the victims and thanked union members for their physical and financial contributions.
