NEW DELHI, March 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation on March 24 to discuss the ongoing situation in West Asia and the strategic importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open.
The discussion comes amid rising tensions following the February 28 US and Israeli strikes on Iran, which resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In retaliation, Iran launched drone and missile attacks targeting US and Israeli facilities, regional capitals, and allied forces, escalating the conflict and creating uncertainty for global energy markets.
The leaders reaffirmed the strong political and strategic partnership between the United States and India, highlighting cooperation on trade, defense, and regional security.
The call followed discussions between S. Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the crisis’s impact on the global economy and energy security.
Both sides agreed to continue working closely to maintain stability and manage the West Asia conflict. (IANS)
