GUWAHATI, March 26: Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), a regional party and constituent of the six-party Opposition alliance, has unveiled the party’s manifesto and vision document for the April 9 state Assembly elections, asserting that Assam’s political future must be given top priority and safeguarded at any cost.

Addressing the media, AJP chief Lurinjyoti Gogoi alleged that the state’s current financial situation reflected a widening gap between promises and ground realities, with citizens increasingly bearing the brunt of economic challenges.

“The primary issue here is to safeguard Assam and its future,” Gogoi stated, claiming that the aspirations for a self-reliant state have not materialised on the ground, as envisioned.

The AJP leader further referred to the deficit budgets over the years, while arguing that the situation has pushed the state into a position of heightened dependence on the central government.

Referring to the AJP vision document, Gogoi said a comprehensive roadmap has been prepared by the regional party, aimed at bolstering Assam’s internal production capabilities.

“The vision document lays out sector-specific strategies designed to harness local resources, boost economic self-sufficiency and reduce external dependency,” he said.

Terming the Assembly elections a decisive phase in the determination of the state’s political future, Gogoi called for a shift in governance priorities, urging voters to reflect on issues of economic resilience, fiscal stability and regional empowerment.

“The manifesto seeks to offer an alternative model which aims to focus on sustainable development while staying rooted to the state’s inherent strengths,” he stated.
