SHILLONG, March 27: Following in the footsteps of the GHADC, the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) has initiated steps to bring in necessary amendments to the council’s rules to make ST certificates mandatory in order to bar non-tribal candidates from contesting MDC elections.
As a first step, a delegation of JHADC MDCs led by CEM Thombor Shiwat met Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday to discuss the amendment to the JHADC rules.
The Chief Minister assured necessary government support to the JHADC to enable it to fulfil its mandate and uphold its commitments to the people.
Additionally, Sangma also assured to look into the JHADC’s plea for government support to clear the pending salaries to the council’s employees.
