Husain, Iftikhar-Vimal shine in Shillong tennis meet

Shillong, March 27: Irfan Husain and the doubles pair of Sheikh MD Iftikhar and Gagan Rakesh Vimal emerged as the top performers as the MTA-AITA Pro Circuit Men’s ₹1 lakh Tennis Tournament concluded at the Shillong Club Tennis Courts.
Husain put on an impressive display to claim the men’s singles title, overcoming Mayand Tewary, who settled for the runner-up spot after a commendable run in the tournament. In the men’s doubles event, Iftikhar and Vimal combined effectively to secure the championship, defeating the pair of Nishith Naveen and Tushar Mittal in a closely contested final.
The week-long tournament, held from March 21 to 27, was organised by the Meghalaya Tennis Association in association with the National Games Secretariat and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.
It witnessed participation from players across the country and featured high-intensity matches in both categories.The finals lived up to expectations, providing thrilling contests and showcasing the depth of talent in Indian tennis.
A prize distribution ceremony followed, where the winners and runners-up were felicitated in the presence of association officials, who also declared the tournament closed.
The event was widely appreciated for its smooth conduct and professional organisation, with visiting players expressing satisfaction over the facilities and hospitality extended during their stay in Shillong.
