Govt to set up spl courts

SHILLONG: The State Government has decided to set up a special court to try the GNLA militants who were involved in the killing of 35-year-old woman.

Speaking to reporters after a high-level meeting with police officials, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said that the Government would set up a special court to try the militants involved in the killing the woman.

“We will prosecute those who were involved in the crime even if the police are not able to arrest them”, Sangma said. He also said the violent act was committed by a gang of five GNLA militants led by Tengton under the command of Jangjang who operates in Chokpot.

Later, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) which met on Wednesday night stressed the need to formulate a law to establish special courts to deal with incidents of rape cases, heinous crime perpetrated on innocent people particularly women and children.

Speaking to media persons after a meeting of CLP, Urban Affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the CLP, while condemning all such kidnappings and killings of innocent people, urged the State government to render all possible support to the affected family especially the small children who have been traumatized by what had happened to their mother. She also informed that Home Minister Roshan Warjri along with Parliamentary Secretary WD Sangma and other MLAs had rushed to the spot to assess the situation.

“The CLP leader is in control of everything,” she said.
