Health officials meet to review progress of NEC funded projects

SHILLONG: NEC Secretary, Ameising Luikham on Thursday made a review of the NEC funded projects for North Eastern States under Health & Medical Sector in a meeting held at NEC Secretariat, Shillong.

The meeting was attended by Commissioner/Secretary (H&FW), Senior Health Officials of the all eight North Eastern States, officials from NEIGRIHMS, Dr. B. Borooh Cancer Institute Guwahati and several others from across the north east.

Health & Medical Sector of NEC has been supporting various schemes in the North Eastern states.

Discussing the urgent need for the primary health care and development and strengthening of the health care facilities, Secretary, NEC reviewed the projects from Health & Medical Sector state-wise.

Deliberating on the need to speed up the implementation of health related projects Luikham urged the need for timely completion of the projects and directed all states to put in extra efforts to complete the projects on time.

He further mentioned that the projects that are long pending due to some or the other reason need special focus and must be completed by December 2014. The Secretary, NEC also advised the State Governments to sign MOA with the institutes/organizations where the NEC funds are sanctioned and ensure that the institutes are providing free/concessional treatment to the BPL population.

There are 59 on-going projects from Health & Medical Sector in the eight North Eastern States where NEC has provided funds. The list contains seven projects from Arunachal Pradesh, 12 from Assam, 10 from Manipur, five from Meghalaya, seven from Mizoram, 10 from Nagaland, five from Sikkim and three from Tripura.

The NEC projects that are on different stages of implementation in Meghalaya include establishment of six-bedded ICUs each at Civil Hospital, Tura & Ganesh Das Hospital, Shillong at a total cost of Rs. 477.03 lakh, up-gradation of equipment infrastructure for Dialysis Unit, Endoscopy Unit & Major OT, up- gradation of 10-bedded casualty & emergency ward at Civil Hospital, Shillong at a cost of Rs. 498.40 lakh, support for procurement of an MRI (1.5 T) machine at Civil Hospital, Shillong at a cost of Rs. 498.00 lakh, up-gradation of laboratory & diagnostic facilities & setting up of orthopaedic operation theatre at Civil Hospital, Tura at a cost of Rs. 494.91 lakh, among others
