Olympiad
The Education Cell of the Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF) will organise the first edition of the ‘Ri Jaintia Olympiad Competition 2026’ on May 28 to encourage academic excellence among local students. The initiative aims to instill a spirit of healthy competition across East and West Jaintia Hills and help students prepare more effectively for future examinations. The competition will be conducted in three categories: Category I for Class IV (Lower Primary level), Category II for Class VI (Primary level), and Category III for Class VIII (Upper Primary level). The JYF has appealed to parents, teachers and government authorities to support the programme to ensure its success.
Meeting
The Shillong Law College Alumni Association successfully conducted and concluded its election for the new executive committee on Monday. The proceedings witnessed active and enthusiastic participation from the members present, underscoring their collective commitment to strengthening the enduring relationship between the alumni and the institution. The meeting also featured formal addresses by the principal and the secretary of the college as well as the esteemed members of the alumni association, and concluded with a vote of thanks.
Dry day
The District Magistrates of East Jaintia Hills and West Jaintia Hills have declared dry day on April 3 on account of Good Friday. In this regard, all IMFL licensed premises, wholesale and retail sales, bars, canteens, home delivery licensed, country spirit shops including outstill in the two districts, have been directed to remain closed.
