SHILLONG, April 1: A 16-year-old boy, who had recently returned home after completing his board examinations, was declared brought dead at a hospital here after encountering an unexpected nosebleed.
The victim, a resident of Motinagar and a Class X student at Assam Valley School, Tezpur, was found with a bleeding nose. He had returned to the city on March 30.
According to the police, the boy left his residence in the afternoon to meet friends in Laitumkhrah, informing his father that he would return by 5:30 pm. However, he was later discovered in a house near Umpling Bridge.
Sources stated that two youths staying near the bridge were the first to notice the boy. They claimed to have taken him inside the house to provide first aid after observing bruises on his face. The two youths reportedly called the 108 ambulance service to transport him to Bethany Hospital.
According to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, the hospital reported the boy as “brought dead”. “An inquest has been conducted, and no fatal external injuries have been observed so far,” the SP said.
Meanwhile, according to sources, the police have questioned the two youths and seized their mobile phones as part of the investigation.
The Forensic Crime Scene Unit also visited the spot to collect evidence. The body has been sent to NEIGRIHMS for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
