15-year-old kills self in Beed over harassment

BEED, April 8: A 15-year-old girl, who recently appeared for Class 10 exams, committed suicide in a village in Beed district of Maharashtra, apparently due to persistent harassment and stalking by a 27-year-old tractor driver, police said on Wednesday. The girl locked herself in a room and hanged self from a ceiling hook using a scarf at home in the village under Kaij tehsil on Tuesday night, they said. Acting on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, police have registered a case against the accused, Akshay Kale, on abetment of suicide and stalking charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to the complaint, Kale had been stalking the girl for over a year and her ordeal began when she was in Class 9 at a local school. The accused, who worked as a tractor driver, and the victim hail from the same village. (PTI)

Five children die from mysterious illness in Rajasthan

JAIPUR, April 8: In Rajasthan’s Salumber district, five children aged 2–4 have died within five days from a mysterious illness, officials reported. The deaths occurred in Lalpura and Ghata villages, with symptoms including fever and vomiting, causing fatalities within 24 hours. The deceased include siblings Deepak (4) and Laxman (3) from Lalpura, and Seema (4), Rahul (4), and Kajal (2). Eight other children are receiving treatment in hospitals in Salumber and Udaipur. Health teams have been deployed to collect samples, monitor residents, and provide care to anyone showing symptoms. Precautionary disinfectant spraying was conducted in cattle sheds. Authorities urge villagers to seek immediate medical attention and avoid superstition. (PTI)
