SHILLONG, April 9: Amid voting for the Assembly polls in neighbouring Assam, authorities in Meghalaya on Thursday stepped up coordination and surveillance along interstate border areas, particularly in sensitive zones adjoining Ri-Bhoi district.
Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police Giri Prasad said that multiple rounds of coordination meetings were held with counterparts across the border to ensure peaceful conduct of elections.
He stated that joint discussions were carried out with officials from Kamrup Rural, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karbi Anglong and Morigaon, focusing on preventing any untoward incidents, especially in vulnerable border stretches.
According to the SP, close monitoring was maintained on a day-to-day basis till the voting day to ensure that no law and order issues arise and no spillover occurs in Meghalaya.
