SHILLONG: In a reaction to Urban Affairs Minister and Laitumkhrah legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh’s complaint that waste water discharge from the DGAR was leaking into the nearby civil residential areas, the Director General Assam Rifles (DGAR), Shillong has clarified that the repair work to stop the seepage from the retaining wall has already commenced. The DGAR, in a press release, also claimed that in order to find a permanent solution to the problem, a new wall along with a drain has been sanctioned and will be constructed in due course on a priority basis. The release, further, asked the civil population to approach the PWD for further disposal of water through PWD drainage system outside the AR premises. Meanwhile, the AR has also reacted to the report of the force not parting with land for widening of the road running adjacent to the AR premises. The land in question is the Government of India land for which AR is only the custodian and hence is beyond the jurisdiction of AR to part with the land, the release stated.
Commenting that creation of infrastructure in the area should have been considered while planning inhabitation in the area rather than calling AR unfriendly at this stage, the release claimed that the reaction by the Laitumkhrah legislator calling AR as unfriendly was unfortunate and unwarranted as the clarifications had already been provided to her by the Assam Rifles.
