SHILLONG: The State Police is keeping a close watch over the growing war of words between the ANVC and GNLA especially with the two groups challenging each other to a ‘war’ to prove their superiority.

“At present, we would like to watch and observe the whole situation,” ADGP (Law and Order) Rajiv Mehta said on Sunday when asked if this ongoing tussle between the ANVC and GNLA was leading the State to a situation similar to that of Nagaland in the past where the NSCN (IM) and NSCN (K) were at war against each other.

“If at any point of time we feel there could be deterioration in the law and order situation the police would immediately act,” Mehta added.

“As of now, there is nothing to comment on this issue,” the ADGP said.

It may be recalled that ANVC spokesperson Torik Jangning Marak had earlier warned of an ‘all out war’ against the GNLA following the latter’s call for a bandh on August 16.

In retaliation, senior GNLA representative Kakam D Shira had claimed that the outfit was ready to take on the ANVC, currently under ceasefire, if it so desired.
