Three killed in Afghan Taliban attack in Pak

Peshawar, April 16: At least three civilians, including two children, were killed in an attack by the Afghan Taliban in northwest Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, an official said on Thursday. The unnamed official said the Afghan Taliban targeted civilians in Malik Shaheen village of Bajaur district late Wednesday when security forces thwarted their infiltration attempt. The official said two children and a woman died while three others injured in the attack. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, he added. (PTI)

LeT co-founder injured in Lahore attack

LAHORE, April 16: Lashkar-e-Taiba co-founder Amir Hamza was injured in a shooting attack by unidentified motorbike-borne gunmen in Lahore on Thursday, police said. Hamza, a senior LeT leader designated as a terrorist by the US, was travelling in a vehicle associated with a private TV channel when the attack occurred on Peco Road. He sustained a bullet injury to his arm, while a religious programme host accompanying him remained unharmed. Police are investigating the incident using CCTV footage. Hamza has been shifted to hospital. The attack has been condemned by a political front linked to Hafiz Saeed’s banned organisation, which demanded swift arrests and improved security. (PTI)

Ghana rescues 113 children in trafficking crackdown

ACCRA, April 16: The Ghana Immigration Service has rescued more than 300 West African nationals, including 113 children, in an intelligence-led operation targeting street begging networks in Accra. The early Wednesday raid focused on suspected trafficking rings that exploit foreign nationals, particularly women and children, across the Greater Accra Region. The rescued group includes 36 boys, 77 girls, 66 women, and 126 men, though their nationalities were not specified. Authorities said the operation aimed to dismantle organised networks using coercion for street begging. Officials expressed concern over the high number of minors involved, highlighting ongoing trafficking risks in the country, which remains a source, transit, and destination point for human trafficking. Death toll rises to 10 in Turkey school shooting

ISTANBUL, April 16: The death toll from Turkey’s second school shooting in two days rose to 10 after another injured victim died in hospital, officials said. The attack occurred in Kahramanmaras when a 14-year-old student opened fire on two classrooms, killing a teacher and eight students and injuring 13 others before being killed himself. The gunman reportedly used firearms belonging to his father, a retired police officer who was later arrested. The shooting followed a similar incident a day earlier in Sanliurfa province that left 16 injured. Authorities have detained dozens in connection with the attacks and launched nationwide security and psychosocial support measures. (AP)
