Blood donation camp in city marks World Haemophilia Day

SHILLONG, April 17: A blood donation camp was organised on Friday by CRCSRE-Shillong in collaboration with Pasteur Institute Shillong to mark the observance of World Haemophilia Day and promote awareness on blood disorders. The programme, held at the CRCSRE-Shillong office premises, aimed at encouraging voluntary blood donation while sensitising people about haemophilia and the need for timely access to safe blood. Director of CRCSRE-Shillong, Ram Shakal Sahani, in his welcome address, highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation and stressed the need for collective efforts to support individuals affected by haemophilia and other blood-related disorders. An awareness session was conducted by Dr. Allya, Medical Officer from the Regional Blood Centre, who spoke on the causes, symptoms and treatment of haemophilia, underlining the importance of regular availability of safe blood for patients. The camp witnessed participation from staff, students and volunteers, reflecting a collective commitment towards public health and social responsibility.
Govt modifies vending zones in
Laitumkhrah; 3 areas de-notified
SHILLONG, April 17: The state government has partially modified the notified vending zones in Laitumkhrah. In a notification, the Commissioner and Secretary of the Urban Affairs department, Vijay Kumar D, stated that areas including Fire Brigade Road, near Lyndhurst Estate, and near DHS have been de-notified as vending zones. Additionally, the Dhankheti Parking Lot and the compound of Brightwell Bungalow have been officially notified as vending zones. The department had earlier designated certain areas across Laitumkhrah as vending zones in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 21 of the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014. This move was in compliance with a High Court of Meghalaya order in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) directing the state government to demarcate specific areas for street vendors.
