JOWAI, April 18: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) Jowai Circle, has expressed concern over complaints received from the public about rude behaviour and disrespectful communication by some staff towards people who send or collect their parcels from the Jowai Post Office.
To address the issue, a delegation led by JSU Jowai circle president Born Rupon and general secretary Rio Pyrtuh met the Chief Postmaster.
During the meeting, the JSU conveyed that the conduct of certain staff members violates the Post Office Act, 2023, and the Post Office Rules, 2024. They demanded that the staff show respect and properly handle the parcels of the public.
The Chief Postmaster acknowledged the complaints and agreed to take the matter seriously to resolve the issues immediately.
She assured the union that proper instructions would be given to the staff regarding office procedures and restrictions on certain items. She further stated that communication would be made clear not only in Hindi or English but also in Khasi and Pnar, as many people from rural areas face difficulties understanding Hindi or English.
Following the meeting, which the union described as successful, the JSU stated it will continue to serve the welfare of the community and ensure that the rights of the public are upheld.
It also warned that if appropriate corrective measures are not taken, the union will resort to other necessary actions.
