SHILLONG, April 19: Former Chief Secretary Donald Phillips Wahlang on Sunday declined an offer from the BJP to contest the upcoming by-election to the Shillong parliamentary seat, stating that he has no interest in entering politics.
“I have no interest in politics and have no inclination to do so in the future,” Wahlang said, responding to remarks made by former Cabinet minister and BJP MLA A.L. Hek.
Hek had earlier indicated that the BJP was willing to offer Wahlang the party ticket for the bypoll.
He revealed that the proposal was also personally conveyed to the retired bureaucrat during a recent felicitation programme organised by the All Meghalaya Primary School Teachers’ Association (AMPSTA).
Wahlang, having recently retired, would have the time and opportunity to contribute to public service through active politics, Hek had stated.
