Shillong, April 22: Balmanduri FC swept to a 7-1 victory over Attong Matgrik FC in Group G of the 5th Meghalaya State League in Williamnagar on Wednesday.
Balmanduri, of North Garo Hills, lost their opening fixture on 18 April but turned that around today with a cracking victory. Four goals came in the first half through Goodnear Marak (21’), Jurisbirth Marak (30’), Ganapati Rabha (41’) and captain Chichang M Momin (45’).
More of the same followed in the second 45 minutes with Nilaybhumi Rabha (70’) and Dipunjay Rabha (75’) scoring after they came off the bench and Jurisbirth added another in the 81st minute to make it 7-0.
There was then some late consolation for South Garo Hills’ Attong Matgrik as Sunil M Marak found the back of the net in the 85th minute.
That was the first goal for Attong Matgrik this season; they had lost their previous two matches without scoring and remain bottom of the group.
This was the only match of the day as the other groups will be rested before returning to action on Friday. Group G is bigger than the others, with five teams, which means that games can be scheduled more frequently.
The only match on Thursday will again be in Group G between A’chik SCO Rongjeng and Janepih YSCA at 3pm.
