SHILLONG, April 22: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Sohiong Circle on Wednesday raised concerns over a persistent drinking water shortage in Wahnongkseh village, where newly installed pipelines and storage tanks remain dry. A delegation from the HYC met the Chief Engineer of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department to demand immediate intervention.
HYC Sohiong Circle president Purningstar Shabong said the shortage is due to the lack of a functional water source, as the dam intended to supply the village has not been constructed. “At present, there are only water tanks and pipelines in place, but no water supply. This has caused significant hardship to the residents,” Shabong said. The organisation urged the PHE department to explore alternative projects or new schemes to facilitate the construction of a water source and ensure a reliable supply. The HYC added that the lack of water is severely affecting the daily lives of residents and requires urgent attention from the authorities.
