Assam Cong teams to visit districts ahead of vote counting day

GUWAHATI, April 23: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has initiated special measures aimed at preventing “irregularities” during the vote counting process in the state on May 4.

As a part of the steps taken, seven special teams have been constituted to visit various districts from April 25 onwards.

The delegations have been assigned key responsibilities and instructed to take stock of the respective ‘strong rooms’ across the districts, meet party candidates and hold discussions with the administration of the districts.

The steps have been taken following discussions between AICC general secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh and APCC president Gaurav Gogoi, a circular issued by the Assam PCC informed on Thursday.

Accordingly, in Upper Assam, the delegation comprising Debabrata Saikia, Raju Sahu, Utpal Gogoi, Rajkumar Nilanetra Neog, David Phukan and Mrityunjay Duwara will visit Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat districts.

For the North Bank, responsibilities have been assigned to Ripun Bora, Ghana Burhagohain, J.P. Das, Shailen Sonowal, Kartik Kurmi, Shankar Kutum, Meghanath Chettri and Bipul Bora. The team will visit Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Biswanath, Darrang and Sonitpur districts.

For central Assam, the team includes Sibamoni Bora, Diganta Barman, Satyabrata Kalita, Mira Borthakur Goswami, Swapan Kar, Mrinal Hazarika and Akram Hussain. The delegation will visit Hojai, Nagaon, Morigaon, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan and Nalbari districts.

For the hill districts, the team comprises Nirmal Langthasa, Raton Ingti, Augustine Enghee, Ashok Teron, Pallav Chetia and Sarlongki Ingti. The delegation will cover Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts.

For Lower Assam, the team comprising Rakibul Hussain, Pradip Sarkar, A.K. Rashid Alam, Deep Bayan, Gajendra Upamanyu, Arun Tiwari and Mustafa Khaddam Hussain will visit Barpeta, Bongaigaon, South Salmara-Mankachar, Dhubri, Goalpara and Bajali districts.

In Barak Valley, the team comprising Ajit Singh, Abhijit Paul, Aminul Islam, Biswajit Ghosh, Badrul Barbhuiyan, Papon Deb, Pradeep Gowala and Hussain Ahmed Choudhury will carry out the responsibilities. The delegation will cover Karimganj, Hailakandi and Cachar districts.

For the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), responsibilities have been assigned to Mehdi Alom Bora, Buddhadev Phandangary, Sohen Brahma, Bhabanath Nath, Stephen Lakra, Umesh Deka, Dipak Kalita and Satya Nath Kalita.

The delegation will visit Kokrajhar, Baksa, Chirang, Tamulpur and Udalguri districts.
