SHILLONG, April 24: Shillong Smart City Limited (SSCL) has issued a fresh invitation for bids for the leasing of commercial shops at the Polo Commercial Complex after previous attempts failed to attract any bidders.
The six-storey shopping mall, constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 100 crore, contains a total of 109 shops. Under the current tender, 93 units are available for allotment on a monthly rental basis, while the remaining 16 have been reserved for government use or discretionary allotment.
Of the 93 shops being tendered, the government has designated 69 to be leased at market rates, while 24 will be offered at subsidised prices. The units will be provided in a “warm shell” condition, allowing tenants to customise the interiors according to their business requirements.
The complex was inaugurated by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in July last year. However, the hub has remained non-operational as earlier bidding rounds received no response. Interested parties had reportedly cited the high rental rates initially quoted by the government as the primary reason for staying away.
With the new tender, authorities are looking to finally operationalise the facility and establish it as a commercial hub in the city.
