SHILLONG, April 24: At least nine persons, most of them schoolchildren, were injured when a stray dog went on a biting spree in Lad Nongkrem village on Thursday morning, triggering panic among residents.
One of the victims, a three-year-old child identified as Aibapynkmen Mawthoh, was reportedly attacked while playing inside his house.
The incident occurred when the child’s mother had stepped outside to wash clothes, while her father was attending to cattle at a nearby cowshed.
The child’s mother, Binolis Mawthoh on Friday said the child ran to her crying after the attack.
“She came to me crying and said she had been bitten by a dog. By the time we looked for it, the animal had fled,” she said.
The child sustained injuries on her face and body and is currently undergoing treatment at Ganesh Das Government Maternal and Child Health Hospital.
Following the incident, villagers tracked down the stray dog and killed it to prevent further attacks.
