RESUBELPARA, April 25: Agriculture Minister Timothy D. Shira on Saturday urged the youths of Meghalaya to embrace entrepreneurship in the agriculture and horticulture sectors, so as to ensure sustainable economic growth.
Speaking as the chief guest at a workshop under the MPOWER Youth Employment & Economic Growth Component, Shira highlighted the region’s high potential in these fields and encouraged participants to pursue self-employment.
The programme, held at Bakra Multi Facility Hall, was organised by the Government Innovation Lab (GIL) in collaboration with the Harvard Growth Lab, Meghalaya Institute of Governance (MIG) and the Indian School of Business (ISB).
Key speakers, including Ricardo Villasmil and Santiago Segovia from the Harvard Growth Lab, addressed the geographical challenges of the state, such as its remoteness and difficult terrain.
They also stressed the need to create diverse employment opportunities to move away from a heavy reliance on government jobs.
The sessions also focused on identifying practical employment avenues for the youth while balancing traditional livelihoods with modern development strategies.
