SHILLONG, April 25: A domestic feud turned deadly in Shillong’s Mawblei neighbourhood on Saturday morning when a 40-year-old man was allegedly bludgeoned to death by his co-tenant using a “No Parking” board following a row over a suspected affair.
The deceased, identified as Sumeet Kr Singha, was reportedly assaulted by Sanjay Kumar (42) inside their shared residential building at approximately 8 am.
According to police, the accused used the heavy signage board as a weapon during the violent altercation.
Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was triggered by suspicion on the part of the victim, who believed that Kumar was involved in an affair with his wife.
The disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation that left Singha with fatal injuries.
Singha was rushed to Supercare Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed that the accused has been arrested and a murder case has been registered.
“An altercation between the two led to the assault. The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is under way,” Syiem said.
The incident has shaken the densely populated Mawblei area, highlighting how domestic suspicions can turn into extreme violence within shared living spaces.
