Bengaluru, April 25: Bengaluru FC were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Mumbai City FC in a tightly fought Indian Super League clash, while Jamshedpur FC returned to winning ways with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Chennaiyin FC on Saturday.
At the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, both Bengaluru and Mumbai created several chances but failed to find the decisive breakthrough in an entertaining contest. Mumbai came closest in the opening stages when Valpuia met a dangerous cross at the far post, only for goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu to produce a crucial save.
Bengaluru responded late in the first half as Ryan Williams nearly broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, but his effort from Ashique’s deep cross drifted just wide. Mumbai had another golden chance after the break when Lallinzuala Chhangte rounded Gurpreet in a one-on-one situation, only to fire into the side netting.
Despite late pressure from both sides, including chances for Braian and substitute Soham Varshneya, neither team could find the finishing touch as the match ended in a stalemate.
Meanwhile, in Jamshedpur, the home side delivered a dominant display to beat Chennaiyin FC 4-1 and climb to fourth place in the standings with 18 points, while Chennaiyin remained 10th with nine points.
Sanan Mohammed starred with a brace, scoring in the seventh and 58th minutes, while Raphael Messi Bouli and Nikola Stojanovic also found the net for the Men of Steel. Chennaiyin’s only goal came through Prakadeswaran S in the 68th minute.
Jamshedpur took control early with Sanan opening the scoring from close range before Messi Bouli doubled the lead with a powerful header in the 27th minute. After the break, Sanan added his second by rounding the goalkeeper and calmly finishing to make it 3-0. (PTI)
