RESUBELPARA, April 27: North Garo Hills police rescued a businessman and foiled an abduction attempt during a swift operation on the afternoon of April 25.
Acting on credible information received at 3:00 PM regarding a local businessman being abducted in a silver Ertiga from the Bolsong area, Bajengdoba police set up a checkpoint at Mansinggre. The vehicle was intercepted at approximately 3:30 PM, and the victim was rescued.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the miscreants intercepted the victim on the Bolsong–Agia road, where they forcibly stopped him and robbed him of cash, his motorcycle keys, and his mobile phone.
Three suspects were arrested: Tenggre Ch Marak (36) of Sankinigre, Dipon D Sangma (38) of Tura, and Lovingson R Marak (33) of Tura. During questioning, one of the accused reportedly claimed to be a member of a civil society organisation identified as the United Garo People’s Forum.
A case has been registered at the Bajengdoba Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is under way.
The North Garo Hills Police reiterated their commitment to tackling criminal activities, including those committed under the guise of organisations, and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
