Jiasa, Ekyrpangmeki advance as boxing championship intensifies

Shillong, April 28: The second day of the State Boxing Championship 2025-26 saw more exciting action in the ring on Tuesday at Mawlai Mawroh here.
The four-day event is organised by the Meghalaya Boxing Association (MBA) with support from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.
The championship is for boys and girls in junior (15-16 years) and youth (17-18) categories, further subdivided by weight.
The girls’ youth category reached the semifinals, with Jiasa B Marak of North Garo Hills winning against Risalang Lawriniang of Eastern West Khasi Hills in the 44-46kg division.
In the 48-51kg division, Ekyrpangmeki Sohiong beat Nishamery Kurbah in an all Ri-Bhoi semifinal, with Laweibaphyrnai Marwein defeating Khamkornaki Iawphniaw in a semi between two boxers from Eastern West Khasi Hills.
Sanphika Mynsong (RB) then defeated Ibapynsuk Thabah (West Khasi Hills) in the 54-57kg division.
In the boys’ youth category, Russell Fabian Nongkhlaw (Mawshbuit Boxing Club) and Banchanmiki Pyrtuh (Green Heart Boxing Club) won in the 45-48kg semis, Amethyst Synnah (West Jaintia Hills) and Samuel Sohphoh (RB) in the 48-50kg division, Nineseviersius Suchiang (WJH) and Kibanroi Syngkli (EWKH) in the 50-55kg and Marleki Suchiang (WJH) and Erickson Kahit (East Khasi Hills) in the 55-60kg division.
The junior boys’ category saw action in the quarterfinal rounds, with Arush Biswa (Noble Art Boxing Club), Eddieferson Wahlang (GHBC), Pyndapkupar Marwein (EWKH), Nambearo Sangma (West Garo Hills), Freedy Marngar (EKH), Ryan Lyngdoh (GHBC), Aaron T Sangma (WGH) and Arkimanbha Rimen (EKH) the winners of the various weight divisions.
