SHILLONG, April 29: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) on Wednesday asserted that its allegations of backdoor appointments in the Secretariat are based on RTI findings and documented evidence.
KHNAM Working President Thomas Passah stated that while one category of daily wage employees is recruited through a formal process involving advertisements, tests, and reservation policies, another group is allegedly appointed at the discretion of the Nazir under the Secretariat Administration Department.
He alleged that such discretionary practices, coupled with the arbitrary termination of workers, indicate nepotism within the department.
Passah further claimed that several employees who had served for many years were removed last year and replaced by new recruits.
He also noted that the department has failed to properly implement the Regular Casual Worker Scheme, 1996, which should have allowed long-serving daily wagers to be considered for regular appointments against sanctioned posts.
Reiterating its position, KHNAM stated it is prepared to provide names of officials’ relatives who were allegedly appointed. The party urged the Chief Secretary to intervene to protect long-serving employees and ensure a transparent recruitment system that upholds equal opportunities for the state’s youth.
