Khliehriat, May 1: The cheers lingered, the dust slowly settled over Teilang Playground, and amid the fading echoes of sprint finishes and long jumps, one name stood tall above the rest.
Sham Sham Secondary School, with an impressive tally of 89 points, was crowned Overall Champion at the East Jaintia Hills District Level Inter-School Athletics Meet 2026, which concluded on Thursday at Dkhiah West.
In the team events, KB Memorial Higher Secondary School and Sham Sham Secondary School emerged as champions in the Under-14 and Under-16 boys’ and girls’ categories respectively, underlining their dominance across age groups.
In the senior divisions, Wapung Higher Secondary School clinched the Under-18 boys’ title, while San Shnong Secondary School topped the Under-18 girls’ category.
The meet also recognised outstanding individual performers. In the Under-14 category, Ready Ryngkhlem of Wapung Higher Secondary School was named Best Male Athlete, while Lamsaka Dkhar of Sham Sham Secondary School secured the Best Female Athlete award.Among the Under-16 competitors, Highbornson Muksor of Khliehriat Presbyterian Secondary School and Sandiya Dkhar of Sham Sham Secondary School were adjudged the best male and female athletes respectively.
In the Under-18 category, Lastduh Lamurong of Don Bosco College and Rosy Sana of San Shnong Secondary School were honoured as the top male and female athletes.
With the district meet now concluded, the spotlight shifts to the state stage. Winners from various events will go on to represent East Jaintia Hills at the upcoming State Level Inter-School Athletics Meet, carrying with them not just medals, but the promise of something greater.
