Lok Bhavan celebrates foundation days of Himachal, Gujarat, Maha

SHILLONG, May 1: The Statehood/Foundation Day of Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra was commemorated at Lok Bhavan, here on Friday, with Governor C.H. Vijayashankar attending the event as the chief guest. In his welcome address, Chaudhary stated that such occasions offer an opportunity to recognise the rich heritage and contributions of different states. Governor C.H. Vijayashankar conveyed his greetings to the people of the three states and noted their contributions to national growth and unity. He highlighted that Himachal Pradesh has maintained a balance between development and environmental preservation, reflecting sustainable growth rooted in cultural values.
Referring to Gujarat, the governor observed that the state’s trajectory reflects leadership, courage and innovation, driven by a strong vision and commitment to national development while remaining anchored in its heritage.
On Maharashtra, he pointed to its role in shaping India’s socio-economic and cultural landscape, adding that its legacy of reform and resilience continues to influence generations and contribute to the country’s progress.
The governor further noted that such celebrations embody the spirit of unity in diversity and align with the vision of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, aimed at strengthening cultural and emotional bonds among states.
The programme also featured cultural performances representing the traditions of the three states.

 

 

 

GFP prog launched in Patharkhmah
Nongpoh, May 1: The Green Force Patharkhmah (GFP) programme was launched by General Administration Department Minister Sosthenes Sohtun at an event organised by the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Patharkhmah Civil Sub-Division, in collaboration with the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi district and the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA), in Patharkhmah on Friday. A cleanliness drive was also organised at the playground of the Western Ri Bhoi Sports Association and along nearby roads and surrounding areas. The initiative aimed to foster close cooperation among communities to preserve the environment and promote cleanliness across villages in the region. The primary objective of the programme is to strengthen inter-village cooperation through an Inter-Village Development Championship, with a focus on promoting a clean and healthy society, restoring and rejuvenating the natural environment, maintaining clean and vibrant water bodies to support aquatic life, and discouraging indiscriminate disposal of waste in villages and surrounding areas. As part of the launch, sanitation equipment such as boots, gloves, and other materials was distributed during the day.
