Tributes mark Satyajit Ray’s 105th birth anniversary

Tributes poured in for Satyajit Ray on his 105th birth anniversary as admirers, film enthusiasts and dignitaries gathered to honour the legendary filmmaker whose works continue to shape world cinema. Hundreds of people from across West Bengal and beyond visited his residence at 1 Bishop Lefroy Road in Kolkata, where family members, including his son Sandip Ray, received visitors and paid homage to the cinematic icon. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also remembered the maestro, stating that his creations remain timeless. “The immortal works of Ray will remain as an invaluable treasure in world cinema,” Banerjee said in a post on X, underscoring his enduring global influence. Speaking on efforts to preserve Ray’s legacy, Sandip Ray highlighted ongoing restoration and digitisation initiatives undertaken by the Society for the Preservation of Satyajit Ray Films. “The work is happening overseas as well as here. I feel it is extremely necessary because preservation is important,” he said, adding that extensive efforts are underway to digitise a vast archive of documents, including sketches and writings. “We are already working on plans to digitise the papers. There is a vast body of materials — from sketches to writings. We are very busy handling all of it,” he added. (IANS)

Swara Bhaskar hits back at body-shaming trolls

Actress Swara Bhaskar decided to hit back at trolls who criticised her for her post-pregnancy weight gain. Swara recently posted a throwback photo of herself from 2018, and it ended up receiving body-shaming remarks from the netizens. Reacting to this, she dropped a collage of the 2018 snap, alongside a recent picture of her holding her daughter Raabiya, with her back facing the camera. Condemning the trolls in strong words, Swara wrote on her IG, “This is a hill i will repeatedly die on! The kind of rage and anger I’ve encountered in the last few years because my body has changed after childbirth and because I refuse to lose the weight on the timeline of strangers on the internet.. is bizarre! I want to say it- again and again.. Women’s bodies have more purpose than sexualisation and being hangers for glamour. (sic)”. (IANS)
