EKH Police collects nearly Rs 1.5 lakh from traffic violators

SHILLONG, May 2: East Khasi Hills Police collected nearly Rs 1.5 lakh in fines during a traffic enforcement drive in Laitumkhrah on Friday.
The operation, supported by the Laitumkhrah Dorbar, involved 30 traffic personnel and 15 Special Operations Team (SOT) members. During the drive, police penalised several motorists for drunk driving and unauthorised vehicle modifications.
In one instance, a scooter rider allegedly attempted to run over UBC S M Sangma while trying to evade the checkpoint. Police confirmed that legal action is being initiated against the rider.
Local leaders, including the Rangbah Shnong and Rangbah Dong, were present and urged the police to conduct such initiatives regularly. District police stated that enforcement drives will continue as part of ongoing efforts to ensure road safety.
