Shillong, May 4: Balmanduri FC ran away with a 7-1 victory over Attong Matgrik FC in Group G of the 5th Meghalaya State League in Williamnagar on Monday.
The other match of the day, in Wahiajer’s Group E, saw Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC take their first victory of the MSL, with a 2-1 result over Lumphyrnai Sohphoh FC.
This was an exact repeat of the first leg for Balmanduri where they also won by the same scoreline against bottom side Attong Matgrik. Chichang M Momin (20′, 27′, 50′, 87′) struck twice on either side of half time, while Ltchal Marak (36′, 66′) and Withnias G Momin (90′) provided the other goals for Balmanduri.
Sunil M Marak (58′) was the lone scorer for Attong Matgrik. In Wahiajer, Iatyllilang Lumsehkot, who had scored just one goal in their four previous matches, found the back of the net twice through Leiwanki Laban (9′) and Firstborn Tyngkan (22′).
Sonowel Kharsati (79′) pulled one back in the second half but it was not enough for Lumphyrnai Sohphoh. Iatyllilang Lumsehkot moved off the bottom rung of Group E with this win but they were out of the running for a place in the pre-quarterfinals even before this match as Shillong Lajong and Lumphyrnai Sohphoh had already wrapped up the qualification spots between them.
