Ri-Bhoi (Meghalaya), May 6: In a major boost to its expanding healthcare and medical
education ecosystem, the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has appointed
renowned oncologist and former Director of Dr B. Borooah Cancer Institute, Dr A.C. Kataki, as the
Medical Administrator of the P.A. Sangma International Medical College & Hospital.

Dr Kataki brings decades of distinguished experience in oncology, hospital administration, and public
health systems. The Dr B. Borooah Cancer Institute, which he previously led, operates under a joint
administrative framework of the Government of India and the Government of Assam, with functional
support from the Department of Atomic Energy and technical linkage to the Tata Memorial Centre.

Under his leadership, the institute witnessed remarkable advancements in cancer care delivery,
research, and institutional governance.

A long-time well-wisher of USTM, Dr Kataki has closely observed the university’s journey from its
humble beginnings—when it started with just a single computer and a handful of students—to its
present stature as one of the region's leading educational institutions.

His association reflects both
professional alignment and a deep personal belief in the university’s vision and growth trajectory.
Soon after assuming his role, Dr Kataki held an extensive interaction with senior faculty members,
Deans, and administrative officials of the university.

The interaction focused on strengthening
institutional systems, enhancing clinical governance, and aligning academic and healthcare delivery
standards with national benchmarks. The session was attended by the Principals of the P.A. Sangma
International Medical College, the International Academy of Medical Sciences, and the USTM
Nursing Institute, along with key stakeholders from the university administration.

During the interaction, Dr Kataki emphasised the importance of transparency, accountability, and
system-driven functioning in healthcare institutions. He expressed his commitment to bringing greater
transparency to administrative and clinical processes, ensuring efficiency, ethical practices, and
patient-centric care.

Welcoming him, the university leadership reiterated that USTM has emerged as one of the best
institutions in the region, known for its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and
community service. The appointment of Dr Kataki is expected to further elevate the standards of the
university’s healthcare services and medical education framework.

The P.A. Sangma International Medical College & Hospital, named after former Lok Sabha Speaker
P. A. Sangma, continues to evolve as a premier hub for medical education and healthcare in Northeast
India. With Dr Kataki at the helm of medical administration, the institution is poised to achieve new
milestones in clinical excellence, research innovation, and integrated healthcare delivery.
