SHILLONG, May 8: Faculty members from the Department of Pathology at NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, bagged top honours at the 7th South Asian Academy of Cytopathology and Histopathology Conference held in Paro, Bhutan, from April 21 to 23.
Dr. Biswajit Dey, Associate Professor, was awarded the first prize in the oral paper presentation category for his research on the clinicopathological profile and molecular classification of muscle-invasive bladder cancer.
Similarly, Dr. Naveen Kumar, Assistant Professor, won the second prize in the same category for his study on the molecular profiling of endometrial carcinomas in Northeast India. Both award-winning studies are part of ongoing research at NEIGRIHMS focused on the molecular profiling of cancers prevalent in the region.
The research stresses the increasing importance of molecular pathology and immunohistochemistry in improving cancer classification and developing personalised treatment strategies.
Congratulating the faculty, NEIGRIHMS Director Prof. Nalin Mehta said the achievement reflects the institute’s commitment to advancing cancer research and academic excellence in South Asia.
The awardees, on the other hand, credited HOD Prof. Vandana Raphael for her guidance and for providing a supportive research environment that facilitated their work.
