SHILLONG, May 11: The long-pending relocation of 342 families from Them Iew Mawlong continues to remain in limbo, with the Meghalaya government yet to take a final call on the rehabilitation plan and the possible use of defence land still under consideration.
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar said the state government is expected to review the matter again next month during a fresh round of discussions on the issue.
According to Dhar, the government has not yet decided whether it would pursue the option of acquiring defence land for relocation or proceed with the earlier rehabilitation blueprint already prepared for the project.
He indicated that the state was still awaiting feedback from the Defence authorities before taking any decision. Dhar said officials of the Urban Affairs Department had already coordinated with the concerned authorities and the government was now waiting for an updated report on the latest position from the Defence side.
