Resubelpara, May 12: Following complaints by various patterns of teachers in the district of Garo Hills who are apparently yet to receive their salaries over two whole months, the DSEO of the district assured salary disbursement within another day.

As per reports, schools under SSA pattern, ad hoc and deficit are yet to receive their salaries over the past two months since a change in the system by the state government. The latest comes even as all the other districts of Garo Hills have cleared salaries for the same group of teachers over the past two months despite the state providing the Ad-hoc and SSA teachers a revision of their salaries.

Government teachers however have received their remuneration over the past two months.

“We have visited the education department in the district several times over the past few weeks and were assured that the same would be disbursed soon but now it has been two months and we are yet to see a single rupee being provided to us. Why is it the case that when the rest of the districts have had no hassle in ensuring timely salary release,” asked a deficit teacher?

Another ad-hoc teacher quipped that the salary issue possibly stems from the fact that pay has been revised but felt the department should have been proactive and ensured the system was updated to ensure their salary packages were paid on time.

“It is inexcusable that they have not updated the system and this is leading to a lot of us being under duress. The department needs to really buck up and stop being a laggard. This is a serious case of laziness that needs to be nipped,” the teacher added.

Interestingly, while ad-hoc and SSA teachers have benefited from the revision, deficit teachers have not, which should have meant that they received salaries on time. However, that has not been the case and is one of the reasons deficit teachers felt hard done by.

Upon being contacted on the matter, the DSEO of NGH explained that a new system had been set in place by the state and needed updating. The new system apparently involves using a digital signature and was rejected by the treasury when it was submitted last Friday. However the DSEO assured that the matter had been fixed and all three patterns of teachers would receive their salaries by tomorrow, May 13.
