SHILLONG, May 12: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday chaired a high-level review of the Tura redevelopment plan, which involves a total investment of approximately Rs 1,928 crore.
Accompanied by Cabinet Ministers Timothy D Shira and Sanbor Shullai, the Chief Minister assessed ongoing infrastructure projects worth over Rs 1,331 crore. Key projects include the Rs 165-crore Tura Integrated Administrative Complex—expected to be completed in phases starting September 2027—the PA Sangma Sports Complex, Tura Technology Park, and the Tura Water Supply Scheme.
Officials noted that redevelopment work on the Polo Orchid Hotel is also expected to commence soon.
Additionally, projects worth Rs 242.74 crore are now ready for tendering. These include the redevelopment of Najing Bazaar, a multi-level parking and cinema complex at SMELC, Tura City Park, and the Tura Promenade. Other proposed works include a Youth Center, street lighting, and renovations to the Circuit House.
The government has also earmarked Rs 155 crore for projects currently at the conceptual stage, including affordable housing and an archery complex.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of timely completion and called for stronger coordination among departments to ensure the effective implementation of the redevelopment initiatives.
